Frequently Asked Questions
Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?+
No. All splitting happens inside your browser using pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device — safe for confidential documents, contracts, and financial records.
How do I specify which pages to extract?+
Use a page range in the input field. Examples: "1-5" extracts the first five pages, "2,4,7" extracts three specific pages, and "1-3,7,10-12" extracts a combination. Page numbers start at 1.
Can I split a PDF into individual pages?+
Yes. Select "Split into individual pages" and every page becomes its own PDF file. They download together as a ZIP archive.
What does "split every N pages" do?+
This mode divides your PDF into chunks of N pages each. For example, a 10-page PDF split every 3 pages produces files with pages 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, and a final file with page 10. Useful for dividing a report into sections.
Is there a page count limit?+
No artificial limit. The tool processes files in your browser, so very large PDFs (hundreds of pages) work fine on modern devices.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?+
Not directly. Use the PDF Unlocker first to remove the password, then split the unlocked file here.
When to Split a PDF — and Which Mode to Choose
PDF splitting is one of the most common document tasks: extracting a single chapter from a large report, pulling one invoice from a multi-invoice PDF batch, or separating a duplex scan into odd and even pages. This tool offers three modes to match different use cases, all running entirely in your browser with pdf-lib.
Extract Page Range
Use this mode when you know exactly which pages you need. Enter a range in standard notation: 1-5 for a consecutive block, 2,4,7 for non-consecutive pages, or 1-3,7,10-12 for a combination. Page numbers start at 1. The extracted pages download as a single PDF — useful for sending only the relevant section of a large document to a client or colleague.
Split Into Individual Pages
This mode generates one PDF per page and packages them in a ZIP archive. Useful for: processing each page separately (e.g., converting each page to an image with PDF to JPG), sharing individual pages via a system with strict file size limits, or archiving pages individually.
Split Every N Pages
This mode divides the PDF into equal chunks of N pages. A 30-page document split every 10 pages produces three files: pages 1-10, 11-20, and 21-30. If the total page count is not evenly divisible, the last chunk contains the remainder. This is the right mode for distributing chapters of a manual, sectioning a long report by month, or breaking an oversized file into email-friendly pieces.
Privacy — Your PDF Never Leaves Your Device
Every split operation happens in your browser. Your original file is read from disk, processed in memory, and the extracted pages are written directly to your downloads folder. Nothing is transmitted to any server. This makes the tool suitable for confidential documents — financial records, legal filings, medical reports — without the privacy risk of cloud-based PDF services.
